10 reasons to vote Liberal Democrat

• We are putting patients first by freeing doctors and nurses from government targets and meddling.

• We are offering free long-term personal care for people in residential homes, as we have done in Scotland; no-one should be forced to sell their home to pay for care.

• We would abolish tuition fees and top-up fees, as we have done in Scotland, making university affordable for every student.

• We would cut primary school class sizes and put more investment in children's early years, spending the £1 billion Child Trust Fund when it matters most.

• We would put 10,000 more police on the streets - cutting crime and the fear of crime.

• We would put £25 more on the pension every week at 75 and take a million pensioners off means-testing. We would continue to provide free off-peak local public transport for all pensioners and disabled people.

• We propose only one tax increase, on those earning above £100,000 a year - we oppose hidden tax increases.

• We would axe the unfair and unpopular Council Tax and replace it with a fair system of Local Income Tax based on ability to pay.

• We would seek to restore trust in government after the disasterous war in Iraq, which we opposed and to rebuild links with the United Nations and the European Union.

• We would take the environment seriously; cutting pollution, cutting congestion and boosting renewable energy.
