Oxford West and Abingdon Liberal Democrats

Campaigning for OXWAB with Dr Evan Harris MP

Oxford West and Abingdon (OXWAB) is one of 6 parliamentary constituencies in Oxfordshre. The others being Oxford East, Banbury, Witney, Wantage and Henley. OXWAB stretches along the A34 from Kidlington in the north to Abingdon in the South. It spreads from Carfax in the centre of Oxford to Appleton and Besselsleigh in the West. The result is a constituency with a mix of student, city, town and village.

While the constituency is wholly within Oxfordshire, it covers 3 different District Councils. Cherwell District in the North, Oxford City in the Centre and East and the Vale of White Horse for the rest. This means that there are council elections every year somewhere in the constituency.

Dr Evan Harris was first elected MP in 1997 and was re-elected in 2001 and 2005. The Liberal Democrats are in control in the Vale of White Horse with 30 district councillors, 21 of whom are in OXWAB. We are the second largest party in Oxford City with 17 councillors, 11 of whom are in OXWAB. In Cherwell there are 3 Liberal Democrat councillors, 2 are from OXWAB.

There are 9 County Council Electoral Divisions within OXWAB (electing 13 councillors). The Liberal Democrats hold 8 seats.

As well as district and county councils, there are also many parish and town councils. Abingdon Town Council has been Liberal Democrat run for many years. Kidlington parish council is also Liberal Democrat controlled.
