Lib Dems join Clean-Up in Oxford10.13.00pm GMT Tue 10th Mar 2009 Liberal Democrat councillors and members have joined the OxClean clean-up with enthusiasm. Dr Evan Harris, MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, was among those out in central Oxford over the weekend, and councillors Ruth Wilkinson and David Rundle (right) could be found brightening up their ward of Headington. Organised by members of the Oxford Civic Society, the annual OxClean week-end has rapidly become an Oxford institution. As the OxClean website records: "Up to 1500 community minded volunteers demonstrated their commitment to a clean Oxford by taking part in a litter blitz. 100 local groups - including 23 schools - from across the city were represented with their volunteers litter picking for two hours at a location of their choice. "Talking to the many highly motivated people taking part, litter picking is certainly hard work and rewarding but great fun and sociable too! There were many comments about the wonderful uplifting feeling when looking at newly cleaned places and general agreement that a clean environment is a better, happier place to be."
