Fantastic result for Lib Dems in Hinksey Park by-election - Tories back in fourth place10.35.37am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 28th Jul 2006
Lib Dems almost doubled our share of the vote in yesterday's City Council by-election in Hinksey Park ward. The final result was: Nathan Pyle (LibDem) 217, Labour 676, Green 435, Conservative 155. This represents a shrink in actual vote and share of the vote since May 2006 for all parties except Lib Dems. Our share went from 8.9% to 14.6% pushing the Tories into fourth place with a paltry 155 votes - fewer than they got in May 2006! Steve Goddard, our Parliamentary Spokesperson for Oxford East said, "In a campaign where all parties made a major effort, I am delighted that the only one to gain votes and to increase its voteshare compared to May was the Lib Dems. Nathan Pyle fought a great campaign, and the voters liked what they saw of our local and national policies. We will keep up our work in Hinksey Park, as across Oxford East."
