Campaigns
The Liberal Democrats launched a major campaign on Health recently, and locally Lib Dems have been campaigning to try to prevent Abingdon Hospital closing.
In July 2007, Liberal Democrats announced radical plans to cut the income tax, reducing the basic rate to 16p and benefiting millions of people on low and middle incomes. We will then switch to green taxes on things like pollution and carbon. A typical double-earning family will receive about £1,000 a year back.
Liberal Democrats are running a local campaign for better bus services to Headington and the hospitals.

| Quote of the Week |

"It sounds to me like I should vote for Vince Cable. Vince Cable was against demutualising the building societies back in the 1990s when your government was doing that. Vince Cable was sending me as an economics editor emails every three weeks, about the levels of debt through the last five years and he has been instrumental in saying that the taxpayer needs to be protected nationalising the banks and in having the upside risks as well as the downside ones are the way to go.
